Ski trips

What should you pack for an Angel Fire ski trip with kids?

Krystina Ham, who owns Ham Heritage, says to pack layers so you can dress down on a warm day if needed. In her words: "I'd rather be too warm than too cold, especially with little kids!" Layers are also the thing our guests forget most often on a ski trip. Once the layers are in the bag, here is what else Krystina mentions for the kids:

  • their own ski clothes
  • wool layers to wear under the snow gear

Bringing your own ski clothes is a great idea, and there are many affordable brands now for littles who outgrow their gear every year. Krystina's family favorite brand for the littles is Arctix on Amazon, because it is great quality while still being affordable. The materials are durable and can be used by many kids in one family without spending on designer brands for growing kids.

The family we hosted at Five Elks Lodge

We hosted a family at Five Elks Lodge, one of the eight homes we manage. In their Airbnb review from August 2026, they called the lodge clean and a perfect place to stay with kids. They extended their stay by an extra night. The lodge sleeps 15, with 5 bedrooms, 3 baths and 10 beds. Inside are a playroom for the children, a stone fireplace and vaulted wood ceilings, and the lodge has croquet. The resort is 10 minutes away, and the Country Club and Monte Verde Lake are 4 minutes. You reach the main floor and the entrance by stairs. More about the lodge is on the page for Five Elks Lodge.

What's already at the house

Snowmass Lodge has two pack-n-plays and baby stair gates for little ones, plus a children's playroom. It sits under a mile from Angel Fire Resort, about 4 minutes away. Across our homes you'll find cribs, stair gates, mobile guidebooks and smart keypad entry.

What lasts for years, and what to rent

Kids' helmets and goggles can last for many years without needing to be replaced or outgrown. Rentals at the resort are affordable for kids. For adults who ski every year, we recommend eventually trying to buy your own boots and skis.

Before you drive up

Every one of our homes has the same winter line in its house rules: we recommend 4-wheel drive or snow tires and chains. Our winter driving article covers the drive itself. Winter lifts usually open in mid-December and close in late March. Check-in at our homes is 4:00 pm, with no early check-ins. The base of Angel Fire Resort is 8,600 feet up. For visitors arriving from lower elevations, the resort's advice is that they may need time to get used to the altitude.

Your next step

With babies or toddlers in the group, start by checking your dates at Snowmass Lodge, then compare it with the other homes we manage and build your packing list around what that home's page says is already there.

Come make some memories.
