Family-Friendly Activities in Angel Fire

Angel Fire is a popular family destination especially for those in surrounding states like Texas and Oklahoma. The village and resort have a small-town feel while still having the amazing trails that a larger resort has to offer. Angel Fire Resort was voted the “Most Family-Friendly Ski Resort in North America” in 2025 from On the Snow’s Visitor’s Choice Awards. We choose it as one of our top 5 vacation spots for family-friendly activities because it truly has something for everybody. We can get out to find adventure and we can also have days that are laid-back and refreshing.

In the summertime, we love to hike the Oesta Vista Trail along the creek, finding different plants and wildlife. We visit the Olympic Park daily and when our kids are older will probably play family rounds of pickle ball at the courts. You can ride the chair lifts up for the views during the summer as well and watch the mountain bikers speed down the trails if you’re not riding yourself.

Summer activities include biking, hiking, golf, disc golf, fishing, horseback riding, zip lining, whitewater river rafting, and ATV tours. At Monte Verde Lake there are paddle boards and canoes for rent.

One of our favorite things to do is to spend a half-day in Red River. We like to play at the newly renovated park, walk along the river, cross the bridge to hike the trails amongst the treeline. We like to stop into the Red River Brewery for a burger and fries and especially the in-house made Root Beer is a requirement! We might grab a coffee on our way back into town after checking out the cute shops on Main Street.

In the wintertime, skiing and tubing is a must, and we personally started our kids at 4 with ski lessons from the Angel Fire Resort ski-school and participated in the tubing and sledding on our days off of skiing. After a day of skiing we will stop into Lowe’s for ingredients to roast s’mores at the fire pit at our property as we watch the sunset behind the mountains. There is also night skiing and terrain parks for those seeing even more of a thrill!

Fourth of July is a big hit whether it is fireworks at Eagle Nest Lake or the drone show there is fun to be had! The Balloons over Angel Fire creates core memories every year with the balloons filling the sky and mountains as your backdrop it’s an experience your kids will not soon forget.

A weekly event is the local Farmer’s Market that is always a hit on Sundays – we usually stock up on the local honey from Taos!

Angel Fire is a family favorite for its year-round activities and we hope that your family gets to visit Angel Fire to find adventure and create memories that will last long after you’ve arrived home!
